Many in the sports world get speed confused with conditioning.  Now most people do not try to confuse them but the way they train athletes says differently.  

Watch this short video on the difference and see if you have been doing it wrong.  I know I did in the past till about 5-7 years ago when I finally woke up. Make sure to evaluate your training and see if you are just performing glorified conditioning.
